Projects of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Thuringia, represented by the State Chancellery of Thuringia, Department of Culture and the Arts.
In 2019 we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, the legendary school of art and design whose avant-garde ideas made it a pioneer of classical modernism. To mark the occasion accordingly, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar is organising a marathon to celebrate 100 years of the bauhaus.
The marathon, measuring exactly 42.195 km, is open to everyone seeking something extraordinary – not only the satisfaction of meeting the physical challenge of running a marathon, but also enjoying a route that will take you past the cultural treasures of the historic Bauhaus in and around Weimar. Even over shorter distances, you can still enjoy this unique experience – as a half-marathon or a four-person relay.
In contrast to other marathons through culturally rich cities, the participants in this marathon are allowed to take cultural “time-outs” to experience the highlights of 100 years of the Bauhaus. At various sites, the runners are invited to take a break and participate in theme-based tours, concerts and scenic performances.
