The tour highlights the eventful history of the Bauhaus, founded here in Weimar in 1919. With a focus on central themes, e.g. New Man, Experimentation, New Everyday Life, Stage, Failure and Bauhaus Legacy, the tour offers a comprehensive view of this extraordinary school of art and design.

Neues Museum Weimar
“Van de Velde, Nietzsche and Modernism around 1900”

Henry van de Velde, Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, Harry Graf Kessler and Co. – They were all in Weimar and were key in advancing the modernist project which culminated with the founding of the Bauhaus in 1919.

During this 60-minute tour of the exhibition, visitors discover the artists, their works, ideas and ideals from historicism and the Weimar Art School to Nietzsche and the “New Weimar”.

Bauhaus Museum Weimar and Neues Museum –
The Full Modernist Experience!
The 90-minute tour offers visitors the chance to visits two museums: the Neues Museum and the Bauhaus Museum Weimar. From the origins of modernism around 1860 to the development of “New Weimar” around 1900 with Harry Graf Kessler and Heny van de Velde, to the founding of the Bauhaus in 1919, the tour takes visitors through each phase of the burgeoning modernist movement.
